What is a BID?
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a Business-led initative designed to strengthen Weybridge town centre through coordinated investment, improved services, and a unified commercial voice. It was approved by local businesses in June 2025 with a strong majority vote unlocking over £800,000 in dedicated funding over a five-year term to enhance the trading environment. The BID area consists of 266 businesses from the Quadrant, through the town centre including Baker street, up to and including Morrisons. These businesses pay a levy to the BID. You will find these businesses listed in the directory tab.
What we do
Representing over 250 businesses across 13 streets, we create a cohesive strategy for the town's economic future. We fund projects that go beyond council services, such as marketing, training, events, safety initiatives and public-realm improvements. We aim to provide long-term organisational stability ensuring consistent town-centre management.
Why it matters
The BID gives Weybridge businesses a stronger collective voice, enabling us to shape local priorities, attract footfall, and maintain a vibrant commercial centre. It aligns Weybridge with neighbouring BID‑led towns like Cobham and Walton, helping the area stay competitive and future‑focused.

Chair Weybridge BID

I am the Regional Manager of Mandarin Stone. As the Chair of the BID Task Group responsible for developing this plan, it has been a pleasure to work with local business owners and managers who have shown such a passion for Weybridge. There is a shared desire to make our town an even better place to live, work, and do business.

I am confident that the BID will provide the framework we need to help us stay competitive and deliver the priorities identified in the plan. Managed by businesses, for businesses, the BID will benefit us all and help secure a prosperous future for Weybridge.

BID Initiatives

Procurement

The BID actively supports local businesses by keeping them informed of broader opportunities and facilitates the escalation of any issues with Local Authorities.

With a robust network of over 280 businesses, the BID diligently advocates for solutions to current challenges and represents the business community's perspective on future developments in the town centre.

To ensure a strong return on investment, the BID focuses on reducing business costs through centrally negotiated services, encompassing areas such as trade waste, advertising, insurance, merchant fees, and potential savings through group purchasing initiatives.

Safe and Attractive

We set up a Business Crime Reduction Programme, engaging with the Police and businesses to identify the most appropriate means of reporting and sharing details of suspects, crimes and the use of effective deterrents. Where necessary, we request the Police use the tools available to them to ban repeat shoplifters from the town centre.

We work with partners including Elmbridge Borough Council and Surrey County Council to access match and other funding and grants, including Community Infrastructure Levy, to provide improvements including town gateways which contribute to creating a sense of place.

Working both independently and with partners, we establish ways of enhancing planting within the town centre to make it a more attractive place to spend time, sit and dwell.

BID Governance & Management

The BID is a non-profit company, limited by guarantee. The Board has up to 15 Directors made up of representatives from levy paying businesses or voluntary contributors. Additional, non-levy paying members are co-opted as required.

Board Director positions are unpaid and voluntary and include a mix of all sectors of business that operate within the BID area as well as having the necessary skills and experience required to deliver the Weybridge BID business plan.

Board elections are held and any levy paying business or equivalent financial contributor is eligible to stand as a BID Board Director. Nominated representatives from Elmbridge Borough Council are also present at board meetings.

By becoming a member of the BID company, you can have your say in controlling how the funds are spent and also hold the BID company accountable throughout the 5 year term.

The BID company cannot make a profit and any surplus is spent on the projects and services agreed by the levy payers and Board of Directors.

The BID Board consists of members from the original Task Group who were involved with the development of the BID, providing continuity in the early stages. Elections to the Board take place annually. One of the Directors is voted in as Chairperson by the Directors.

Regular updates are provided via newsletters and e-bulletins. Annual reports and accounts are produced at the end of each year and made available to members.

Measuring Performance

Weybridge BID keeps BID businesses up to date with all BID activity on a regular basis through newsletters, the website, social media, face-to-face meetings, annual meetings and surveys.

Businesses are kept informed on all the projects that the BID implements to demonstrate that it is delivering against its objectives. The Board sets the key performance indicators (KPIs) and criteria upon which to measure the BID's performance. Examples of the criteria the BID uses include:

  • Footfall Figures
  • Visitor numbers
  • Vacancy Levels
  • Car Park Usage
  • New Business Activity
  • Annual Surveys
  • Business Feedback
  • Consumer Feedback
  • Media Coverage
  • Website/Social Media Interactions
